BCD Group Graduate Programs & Internships

  • Engineering Consulting

Our value proposition to our clients is being a consultancy of "total property professionals" who are able to add real value to their projects. We are sought out by our clients because of the full multi-disciplinary nature of BCD and being able to handle client projects from start to finish.

For our people, our values are what make us stand out. They are the founding values of the organisation and we live and breathe them day in and day out.

As a smaller consultancy (with big ambitions) we pride ourselves on the flat feel of our organisational structure. Wanting to remain agile means we check in with internal processes to make sure there is no unnecessary red tape slowing our engineers down from doing what they do best.

Having teams of planners, surveyors, draughting, & civil, geotech, structural, fire, mechanical engineers under one roof means our people are exposed to many different disciplines and come to understand what the disciplines need from one another to deliver a successful project for our clients. It is this wide exposure and appreciation for what other teams do that make us true total property professionals.

We have many stories of people who dip their toes into geotech, before settling into civil or structural, or vice-versa. The point is, you are in control of where your career heads, and we want to expose you to as much as we can to make you the best engineer wherever you choose to settle within the organisation.

The drive and passion of many of our team members mean we regularly have a variety of interesting projects around the country on the go across all of our disciplines and it is the frequent exposure to this challenging work that enables our engineers to hone and grow their skillsets.

From the beginning giving back to the communities in which we operate has been important to BCD. Over the years this has been funding back into the grassroots level sport, KidsCan, STEM initiatives at local schools, volunteering our time to community initiatives. Year on year as the business grows, so too does our community initiative funding & support.

Recruitment Process

  • Graduate Recruitment for 2025 March 2024
  • Internship Recruitment for 24/25 summer will open July 2024

What can you expect from our recruitment process?

No matter if you are applying for an Internship or a Graduate role the process reflects our approach to doing business, limiting the red tape.

Apply directly to our People & Culture team with your:

  • Cover letter
  • CV
  • Academic Transcript
  • From there we will shortlist candidates across all of our disciplines and will reach out directly to chat with you about setting up an interview.
  • Our interview process will usually include the relevant Discipline Manager/s and someone from People & Culture.
  • The interview is set up in such a way so we get to know you and you get to know more about us, so you can determine if BCD is going to be a great fit for you, just as much as we're assessing if you're a great fit for BCD.
  • It's then on to reference checks and smooth sailing straight through to an offer of employment.

Remuneration & Career Growth

  • We aim to keep our finger on the pulse with graduate salaries.
  • We support our Graduates in exploring the different disciplines that interest them within BCD early on in their career so that they can uncover where the true passion lies.
  • We also encourage our Graduates to consider long term career pathways and how they would like to grow within BCD. This can ultimately lead to support to achieve Chartership, training to move into the client-facing side by picking up project management or training to move into people leadership.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • The culture and support of people across disciplines.
  • The work place culture, everyone is lovely and very inclusive. We do a lot of work place/team building activities and its great getting to know everyone. I also love the scope of the work, I do there is so much variety.
  • Work load for a graduate is a good balance between field work and office work.
  • Friendly environment, interesting range of work.
  • Making sure you fit within the culture.
  • Probably lack of interaction with other disciplines and sometimes not enough planners to provide support particularly when there are high workloads and people working part-time/on leave etc.
  • Some of the jobs I've done I feel are a bit above my experience, although I like a challenge, I also hate taking a long time to complete what might be a simple task to others and I feel a little bad about that.
  • It's hard to think of a worst, sometimes the aircon is a bit cold.

Graduate Success Stories

  • Graduate stories
I really enjoy stepping outside of my area of expertise and learning about what other disciplines do (for example surveying or fire engineering). The more I learn about other areas, the better I am at seeing a project as a whole product rather than just my civil design elements.

To me what I love most about my job is when I have a problem, and work to find a couple of solutions and provide a good mini presentation to the reviewer/mentor/superior about what I think is correct.
