Please provide further information on diversity with respect to women, ethnic minorities and LGBT. Please comment on issues such as recruitment, retention, promotion, child care, maternity leave, etc.
Engineering is often a male-dominated industry, however in my section, we have quite a number of female engineers (even at the principal or associate levels). This number is only growing which is great. We have people from all across the globe and countries I haven't even heard of which always makes a great conversation. Beca is a very understanding company. Due to my religious beliefs, there are certain types of projects that I can't work on with a clean conscience. When I made this known on my first day, my team leader immediately made a note of this and made sure to only put me on projects I was comfortable with which I really appreciate. Another case is when a few colleagues (including a graduate) had to take extended leave due to a major surgery or pregnancy etc, but instead of sacking them, they were allowed to take that leave and resume as if nothing happened with no lack of respect etc. Even our senior male figures have taken paternity leave which I find impressive.

There are very few women in my office which I struggle with a lot and while I think Beca is good at saying they will do something, the following through is a struggle. I am the only female graduate in my team and I often feel that there is a lot of animosity when I raise this

I think my company is very accepting of everyone at all stages of their lives (i.e. good maternity policies/ flexible work hours to accommodate family life).

People and Culture team arranges all the events like women in engineering morning tea/presentation, rainbow tick celebration, and a lot of different cultural festivals. We have trainings on Rainbow community and Te Reo classes too.

I think the company does a good job and providing support options for a wide range of people. But room to grow which is natural. Spport networks for these groups have been implemented in the last few years which will help to boost this.

they actively try to hire a range of cultures, women, and gender-diverse people. Are not discriminated against if they have specific needs that need to be accommodated.

Strong initiative within the company to promote and encourage diversity, set diversity targets, flexible working, increased maternity and paternity leave, supportive return to work processes following having a child, etc

given the engineering industry is predominantly male, diversity with respect to women and ethnic minorities is recognised greatly

The Development Infrastructure section is diversely represented by female and ethnic minority groups. Recruitment issues mainly centre around retention of junior/intermediate staff due to; a) poor pay increment in comparison with other offers. b) OE deserters.

Covers all the bases. My team has more women than men - that is pretty unprecedented for an engineering firm. I'm proud of the diversity we have here, we celebrate all cultures and there's no sexism, racism, homophobia etc. at all.

Additionally, we prioritize diversity in recruitment, retention, and promotion, ensuring equal opportunities for all. These initiatives contribute to a diverse and inclusive work environment.

What does your company do to attract applicants from less privileged backgrounds?
We engage with a range of communities and this includes schools where we may assist with STEM events etc to encourage them to consider a career with us. Personally, I've helped with an online platform for school kids to show more of a day in my life and how I got here. This was done with fellow colleagues who joined the company through other means without a university degree to show there are many ways into the company.

I believe they need to do more work in this area

Our team has been hiring people from overseas, and we have brought many engineers from overseas offices like Thailand and Indonesia. I believe there are a team that helps with visa and overseas travel. We have a very diverse team with people from all sorts of background and that has made the environment really inclusive.

I have no idea. They reached out to my iwi to hire me, but I am not less privileged. You would need to define what this question specifically means. I guess they do inspire programs for local schools to get them into engineering
