The recruitment process

Currently, Cardno's Graduate Recruitment process consists of the following steps.

  • Submitting an application including your CV and Cover Letter. Your Cover Letter is crucial as it will tell them why you want to work for Cardno and why you are passionate about your chosen discipline so sell yourself.
  • They conduct initial phone screens which are informal but tell them a little bit more about why you have applied for the role and what you know about them as a business.
  • Their formal interviews (face to face or via Video Conference) contain a mixture of technical and behavioural based questions which are based on competencies they feel are important for their Graduates.
  • Successful applicants are prepared, they are passionate about their subject area and can articulate why they enjoy their field of study. They don't expect you to have the best GPA but they do want you to have the right attitude, have an ability to pick up and learn new concepts, the ability to communicate effectively and be aligned with their core values.

In terms of career opportunities, their Graduates gain exposure to technical, project and client work early. They also offer a number of annual scholarships that can fast-track your professional development and provide financial incentives.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • The people I work with are legends, both on a casual level and professional level. My team is super easy to work with, and super relaxed whilst always striving and pushing me to produce high quality work and advice to clients.
  • The best thing about working at Cardno is the exposure to industry leaders as mentors across a variety of environmental disciplines and the opportunity to steer my career to be centred on my passions and interests.
  • Fantastic people and great working culture. I really appreciate and respect the people that I work with, they are all kind, hard working and knowledgeable people.
  • Being able to work on a wide range of local and global projects with a team that values your input.
  • The variety of work and opportunities to partake in large roles
  • Consulting can be demanding when deadlines are looming. You'll have some late nights.
  • Being expected to sometimes work longer than the contract requirements. However, I believe this is the same at many consultancies.
  • Although the company is doing a better job communicating decisions and activity with the rest of the company, within teams maybe comms could be better. Nothing really to be disgruntled about at this stage.
  • There isn't a clear structure of career progression after the initial graduate program.
