Remuneration & Career Growth

At Contact we want you to lead your learning. Our leaders are there to provide the support, guidance and opportunities to enable you to grow. Don't think of your career as a linear path, be open to different doors that will open along the way.

Contact Energy's graduate development programme (GDP), is an 18 month rotational programme consisting of various rotations into different teams/functions within the business that directly relate to your graduate role. The aim of rotations is for you to build your network within Contact Energy, gain a broader experience of our business and how we operate, and lastly to unlock areas of interest that perhaps you didn't know existed!

We are building our pipeline of future leaders and part of that includes offering a highly competitive starting salary for all graduates. For Graduate Engineers you will start on $68,000.00 p.a and Corporate Graduates will start on $65,000.00 p.a. As part of the programme everyone will receive six monthly performance and annual remuneration reviews. Secondly, the experience you have won't be the same, each graduate will have their own unique experience dependent on the team they join, rotations they complete and business unit they sit in. However, you will all be treated fairly and consistently.

Geez, pretty good so far I hear you say. Well wait till you get around a few of these company benefits;

  • $400 annual “good to be home” payment, your first paycheck and then every year on your anniversary you will receive an additional $400 payment to help make your home a better place to be.
  • Clearhead - Our app based wellbeing hub, with access to online learning resources, a digital assistant, therapy sessions (for yourself and whanau) and financial advisors all fully confidential and free of charge. It’s about proactive wellbeing support to help you juggle life’s ups and downs whenever you it!
  • Purchased Leave - Giving our people the opportunity to work more flexibly is really important to us. It's a big part of work/life balance and getting this right is good for our health and wellbeing. For whatever reason – whether you're a parent, you love to travel, you're studying or you just juggle a lot outside of your role here.
  • Community Contact Leave - It’s not often that someone asks you to stop work for a day so you can help out on a project you’re passionate about, but that’s exactly what we’re doing!
  • Flexible Mahi - Contact is committed to supporting our people’s wellbeing by promoting flexible mahi (FM) to ensure our people can be their best and bring their whole selves to work. Depending on the role, our people can choose to mahi in a way that best suits them, for example where they work, whether that be in their whare, an office location, their local café or the bach; and how they flex their hours.
  • Fourth Trimester - It takes a lot of energy to care for a newborn. From washing and drying baby clothes, to cooking extra meals and, most importantly, heating. We believe in advancing the quality of home life for all New Zealanders, that’s why we’re supporting our newest arrivals and their families with 3 months of free energy.
  • Contact Energy Discounts - Wouldn't be without some good ol energy discounts, whack 35% off your monthly bill with prompt online payments, double down with $10 off per/month our broadband packages.
  • As if those weren't enough… we also have a $1000 referral scheme, Contact Shares Scheme, World Leading Parental Leave Policy, RedMed Health Insurance, and many more corporate discounts to wrap your head around. Let that sink in.

There will be opportunities to come together as a graduate cohort throughout the 18-month programme to share experiences and connect with each other. Additionally you will be connected with graduates from previous years to help you settle in and build your connections!

It can be frustrating at times, but seeing the client’s vision come to life and knowing that the intended audience will hopefully take something away from it, really makes the job worth it.
