The work I do at Kāinga Ora is for their Retrofit Program, and I spend most of every Thursday morning preparing for the weekly meetings we have with one of the contractors we’re partnered with.

7.00 AM

On this Thursday, like most Thursdays, I get up around 7:00 am to make myself a full pot of coffee, knowing that I’ll be spending time seconded to the Kāinga Ora office.

I head out the door at 7:30 and walk through town to be at their offices by 8:00. Because they hot-desk there, I always sit at the window whenever I can so I can work with a view of the harbour.

The prep involves consolidating all outstanding tasks and required pieces of information to hopefully get a swift close-out of these items while everyone is together at these meetings.

12.00 PM

These meetings wrap up around lunchtime, and I had a scheduled fortnightly catch-up with my manager, so he and I went out to a spot by the water to have a quick kōrero with a bite to eat. These chats could be about many things, whether it be project-related and career paths, or out-of-work and personal-life stuff, like about the music festival I was going to that weekend!

2.00 PM

Following lunch, my manager and I headed back to the Frequency office from Kāinga Ora. Once again, I sat myself by the window so that I could work with a view, this time more of the city than the sea.

After a bit more work, actioning off any of the things noted from the morning meetings, I sat down with a few of our Wellington office for a bit of afternoon tea. We’d normally spend this time doing the Stuff quizzes, and we’d even managed to get 15 out of 15 that day (unfortunately this is a bit of a rarity and was in fact our first perfect score).

5.00 PM

Once that’s all done, there was just a couple more hours of work, and it was then time to head home at 5pm.
