Shery Baber

One of my responsibilities is to look after our contract recruitment. I liaise with managers to discuss contract extensions and prepare the paperwork.

6.00 AM

I wake up at 6.00 am and start getting ready for work. I usually take my breakfast with me and catch the 7.00 am bus to town. It takes approximately 15-20 minutes to reach the CBD.

7.30 AM

I start my day with a coffee from Oviedo, the local café. Some days I might meet a colleague for a morning catch-up or I might get a takeaway and drink it at the office.

8.00 AM

The first thing on my list is to go through our Careers inbox and my personal inbox to respond to any queries. I then check my calendar for the day and prioritize my time accordingly.

9.00 AM

Twice a week my colleague and I meet to work on our Early in Careers Programme. Prior to the meeting we discuss the agenda for the meeting. Our work comprises creating content, meeting with graduates, talking to hiring leaders, working with graduate and intern programmes and presenting at leadership meetings.

One of my responsibilities is to look after our contract recruitment. I liaise with mangers to discuss contract extensions and prepare the paperwork. This includes engaging with external agencies and working with our systems and procurement team to ensure all processes run smoothly.

11.00 AM

As part of the recruitment process there are number of touch points within recruiting. I either meet the hiring leader via teams or in person to discuss the position so we can recruit the best candidate.

12.30 PM

I aim to bring my lunch to work but there are a number of places close by to eat. Occasionally my colleagues and I go for a lunch walk around the railway station or waterfront to grab a bite. If I’m working from home I might pop to the gym during lunch for a quick workout.

14.00 PM

Once a week we have a team meeting. Our team meeting is virtual as we have team members based around Wellington, Auckland, Whangarei and Tauranga. We open the meeting with a karakia and it is an occasion for our team lead to provide any updates on our respective workstreams. We share things we’ve learned and recognise achievements together as a team.

15.30 PM
I am currently working on our Atea Optimisation Project. I liaise with the team and work on the necessary documents. Part of the project is to optimise our current tools and implement suggestions.

16.00 PM
Before I log off, I make sure I set out the tasks and priorities for the next day. Additionally, I catch-up on some of my longer-term work projects.

Depending on how busy the day has been I'll leave the office somewhere between 4:30 and 5.00 pm.
