Camilla Ryzner

I love the opportunities that we have been given. I feel like the grads aren’t just a tick of the box kind of thing and we’re actually really valued.

Camilla Ryzner has learnt invaluable skills in her first two placements in the Ryman Graduate Programme, and to think, this adventure all started from a conversation with a local Ryman construction team member.

After graduating with a degree in Construction Management, Camilla felt unsure of what she should do next, while working at Bunnings Warehouse’s trade desk she regularly interacted with construction team members from a local Ryman village in Victoria.

After hearing such high reviews of the company and its values from a Site Manager, she applied for the Graduate Programme, where she was successful in securing a role in the second cohort of Ryman graduates.

She saw the Ryman Graduate Programme as an exciting opportunity that would allow her to put the skills she gained from her studies into practice.

From recruitment to induction, she found the experience a breeze and was excited to find out what Ryman truly had to offer.

“I got to meet and talk to a tonne of people from all different parts of the business and learn how they help the company to succeed,” she shared.

Camilla started her journey in the Design team as a Graduate Design Technician where she focused on drafting the plans which were sent to onsite construction teams. She then found herself in her current role working in the Development team as a Graduate Development Manager.

“What is awesome about the Ryman Graduate Programme and the Ryman business in general, is that we construct and operate our villages,” she shared.

In her second placement she has found herself in the Development team, Camilla works closely with local Ryman construction teams, with one of these being in her own backyard, the Charles Brownlow village in Geelong.

Throughout her time in the Graduate Programme Camilla has had the opportunity to work with the different teams within the construction process; “I can see how each team works and then understand how that intertwines together and it’s been awesome,” she shared.

“My favourite thing is the variety. The programme has been perfect because, for one, I’ve changed teams twice this year already which means I get to learn new things all the time. It’s very diverse which I love.” she remarked.

Camilla has been given a range of opportunities in her current placement, including the training she received for the new software being used by Ryman Construction teams called Procore. She also assisted with the pilot testing of this software in one of the villages.

“I love the opportunities that we have been given. I feel like the grads aren’t just a tick of the box kind of thing and we’re actually really valued,” she said.

One of these opportunities recently saw the Australian Graduates travelling to New Zealand to visit the Christchurch office and villages.

In the future, Camilla is looking forward to; “…seeing the projects that I worked on being built, [especially] the ones that I helped to design, Highett and Ringwood. Seeing [the villages] as 2D plans and 3D models on a computer into a real-life building is pretty awesome.”

As she has met so many interesting people and gained so much insight, her advice to any incoming graduates is to meet as many people as you can and don’t be afraid to say hello.”
