Māori & Pasifika at Simpson Grierson

SG whānau -The SG whānau group was established to enable Māori employees to connect and provide us with a sense of unity and belonging.

We are able to share potential struggles, as well as work together towards mutual goals. This group adopts a tuakana/teina approach so we can learn and grow from each other, as a whānau.

Some of the mahi we are involved in is…

  • Writing bi-annually Māori legal updates
  • Helping organise events for Matariki and Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori
  • Driving initiatives for increasing reo and cultural competencies
  • Running mihi whakatau for new starters

But more importantly, we have regular ‘kawhe kōrero’ to check in with each other and maybe practise some recently learnt reo.

Ngā Mātāpono o Te Reo Māori o Simpson Grierson (Our Te Reo Māori Principles)

Simpson Grierson affirms the status of the Māori language as the indigenous language of Aotearoa New Zealand and an official language of this country. We acknowledge it is a taonga in te ao Māori through Ngā Mātāpono o Te Reo Māori – Our Te Reo Māori Principles.

This group is not exclusive to those who have Māori whakapapa. We welcome anyone who has any interest or passion for the indigenous culture and language of Aotearoa to join.
