Māori & Pasifika at Tonkin + Taylor

Our goal is to provide a safe, supportive environment where all our people can realise their full potential, and create and sustain a better world.

The Environmental and Engineering industry needs more Māori and Pasifika people, to better reflect the communities and environments that we work in. We are committed to developing and nurturing long-term change, supported by the following partnerships:

TupuToa

TupuToa support Aotearoa corporates to better represent our people by successfully recruiting and onboarding Māori and Pacific employees. We have committed to a 3-year partnership with TupuToa, during which we will support Māori and Pacific interns to gain experience in our industry and provide our managers with cultural competency training, ensuring future employees are supported when they enter our workforce.

Pūhoro STEM Academy

Pūhoro STEM Academy programme seeks to accelerate Māori student achievement in preparation for university study and eventually the workforce. We are committed to attending wānanga across Aotearoa, supporting school students to understand the opportunities available to them in our industry. We are also developing a toolkit of resources to help students prepare for entering the STEM workforce, including a job interview guide and CV writing support.

Tikanga training

We are committed to bringing Māori and Pasifika perspectives to as much of our work as possible. Our Board, senior leaders and client-facing staff are undergoing Tikanga training (provided by Te Wānanga o Aotearoa), to better understand te Aō and te reo Māori, and we hope to roll this out to the rest of our people over the next year.
