Pros & Cons

  • The friendly environment, everyone wants to make you feel comfortable working there. Whilst also giving you the help you may need to reach your potential.
  • The Flexibility and support of all the teams and the level of communication is the best I've ever experienced.
  • Four-and-a-half-day work week and awesome work life balance. People are super friendly and supportive and overall a fantastic workplace.
  • Only minor but some days in the office can be quite quiet due to flexible working.
  • Graduate experience can differ according to the allocated teams. Some may have less desired experiences due to team structure and practices they follow.
  • Some technologies used at work are not up to date. It is challenging to update the technologies in use.

Career Prospects
The upwards progression at Vista from what I've seen tends to be taking on more managerial roles in squads or product managers etc. I believe most of it stems from recognition of the work completed by staff members.

Culture

Culture
There is a huge emphasis on culture in both the workplace and out. There are social groups open to anyone for almost anything you can think of. Sports, Movies, Video games and even a band. All of this works together to create a social atmosphere between colleagues whilst ensuring you can make relationships with those further up the chain of hierarchy and your fellow colleagues. During work hours, no one is too important to talk to or ask questions.

I work as a graduate software engineer, working primarily on backend systems. My day-to-day responsibilities consist of writing code, writing tests, looking into and fixing bugs, and overall contributing and working with others in a team.

Yes, my managers are really nice while super busy every day. But they will always respond to my messages when they have time. They are also happy to hear anything about feedback or enquiries.

Office Work Environment
The company's office is located within the heart of Auckland City with many interesting eateries around. The office itself is nice and open with "hot desks", so you can basically sit where you want. Each desk is equipped with at least two monitors, mouse, keyboard, and a laptop dock. The office building has two main toilet areas, one of which is equipped with shower facilities as well. Dress code is just casual.

The interview process was quite unique. After initial CV screening, shortlisted candidates are invited to Vista HQ for a group interview day. On the day, we are assessed on our communicate, teamwork, critical thinking skills via some interesting exercises. By the end of the day, each candidate was interviewed by three employees from different department of Vista.

Incredibly flexible, as long as you are in attendance for important squad and other meetings, you are able to get your work done in your time. As long as you keep up with the workload and make sure it is done to a high standard.

I have noticed initiatives to reduce environmental footprint around the office, whether it be challenges to cycle to work or battery recycling bins.
