He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Our Health & Safety Graduates actively promote a safety culture at Auckland Council. In this role, you will support our leaders and their sites to improve their health and safety practices continuously. You will provide guidance based on our framework, corporate standards, and key safety requirements. 

Your day-to-day tasks may include assisting with:

  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Assess potential risks in various council activities and develop strategies to mitigate them. This could involve site inspections, hazard identification, and incident triaging.
  • Health and Safety Management System: Contribute to the design and implementation of health and safety policies, procedure, and guidelines.  Ensuring compliance with legal requirements, industry standards and external audits.
  • Training and Education: Organise training sessions and workshops to educate staff on safety practices, emergency procedures, and wellbeing initiatives.
  • Incident Response: In case of accidents, incidents, you will assist in investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Data Analysis: Analyse safety data, track trends, and recommend improvements based on insights.

Our 2-year Graduate Programme will provide accelerated learning, development, and rotations.  Our rotations will ensure that you get a 360-degree view and exposure to some key areas like Systems and Projects where you will assist with the implementation of plans and strategies, Risk and Assurance, and Business Partnering. 

Each rotation will provide a healthy mix of on-the-job learning, mentoring from experienced professionals, and meaningful work. 

At the end of the programme, you’ll also be supported in securing a permanent role within Auckland Council entities.

We are looking for Graduates with strong interpersonal, communication and time management skills. 

We welcome applications from graduates in the following disciplines:

  • Occupational Health and Safety
  • Health and Safety (or equivalent)

To be eligible to apply, you must have the following:

  • Be eligible to work in New Zealand, or be eligible to apply for a Post-Study Work Visa
  • A relevant bachelor’s or master’s degree obtained in January 2023 – January 2025
