Fisher & Paykel Appliances Graduate Programs & Internships

  • R&D and Manufacturing

Graduate Engineers at Fisher & Paykel have had long and rewarding careers that have taken them across the globe and into senior executive roles. The CEO, Dan Witten-Hannah, and the Executive Vice President of Carbon Zero Transition and Research & Development, Kane Alward, both started as grads in the Product Development team. They have both had an opportunity to work all over the world with the business.

F&P take pride in providing real-world problems to solve, giving graduates an opportunity to see their work become design features in products of the future. They trust and empower grads to make decisions while providing support and guidance to help reach the best outcomes for their customers.

Joining Fisher & Paykel in the design centres in Auckland or Dunedin gives you the opportunity to work with like-minded individuals who are passionate about using their skills and knowledge to design luxury premium products that respect the planet and are beautiful to use.

In 2023 and 2024, the company was recognised as the Top Employer of Grads in the R&D manufacturing category.  Come and join them as one of the Top 10 Employers of Graduates in New Zealand!

BRAND VISION & VALUES

To be the most human-centred appliance brand in the world.

At the heart of the Fisher & Paykel story are people looking for innovation that changes the everyday into something out of the ordinary. The goal has always been to improve life through good design.

CURIOUS

FPA people are intrigued by the life lived around appliances and the ability for exceptional appliance design to enrich life. We listen to the experiences of our customers and each other to draw on real insights, weaving them into solutions that our customers value. Drawing on a culture of curiosity, creativity, resourcefulness and innovation, they have the courage to challenge each other and conventional thinking to re-imagine the future.

INNOVATIVE

The working culture is one of open innovation. It allows people to work collaboratively to find insights and ideas that connect with their customers and respect their planet. They constantly experiment to find new and better ways of doing things that their customers value. Reflected in their design philosophy, their appliances are purposeful, functional, beautiful and of the highest quality.

SUSTAINABLY MINDED

Their commitment to sustainability is deeply embedded in each phase of the design thinking. It informs the way they work, the products they make, the packaging they come in, and the way they are delivered. In a rapidly changing world, their responsibility to reduce their impact is one they take seriously and embrace.

TRUSTED

To be trusted by their users, their customers and each other is of utmost importance to them. They are deeply committed to doing what they say they will do, consistently over time. They trust their people to translate learning into action, this is the mindset that drives their growth. They are real people, making real products, for real life.

GENEROUS

Generosity of spirit shines through in their people, in the way they present their products, and in the beautiful experiences felt through every interaction with Fisher & Paykel Appliances. With a fundamental belief in openness and collaboration, they share ideas and insights that help shape the world of home design.

Recruitment Process

There are a few questions in the application process to answer to help learn a little more about you, building on the information in your CV, academic transcript and cover letter.

Once they have reviewed your application and checked your eligibility for the position you have applied for, you might get invited you to do a video interview, giving you a chance to sell yourself and elaborate on why you would love to join F&P.

Finally, you would get invited to a more in depth interview/problem solving/peer session in Auckland or Dunedin, where you can get to meet some of the team, explore the design centre facilities and learn more about the work you would be doing as a graduate or intern.

Remuneration & Career Growth

Joining the Fisher & Paykel cohorts as a graduate or summer intern you will start with building connections to your team, leader and buddy, to key stakeholders, and to the wider business. We provide opportunities to connect and network with each other and the rest of the business, grow and learn on the job and stretch as you learn more about yourself.

As a summer intern you will work on a dedicated project that has been developed with real consideration of both your skills and interests and the business needs. The work you do will have a direct impact to our ongoing innovation.

As a graduate, after a comprehensive induction to F&P tools and processes, you'll immediately start working on real projects and contributing to improving and innovating in a specific functional area.

We pride ourselves on designing beautiful products that create moments of delight for their customers, and we know that to do that we need to have the most talented people around. Our remuneration, benefits, and working conditions recognise that.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • The people are awesome - both the other graduates and current staff. This creates a great culture which makes coming to work enjoyable.
  • The business offers many career opportunities and my area has a great career progression structure. I get to work on real-life products and learn about how they are tested.
  • Great culture of sharing knowledge. Everyone is happy to help with things and provide knowledge on topics you don't understand. You are encouraged to grow and think outside-the-box.
  • Autonomy and ownership of work. Support from management. Systems in place for graduate onboarding.
  • I think the work environment should target more goals for newer employees to help us get underway with learning at a faster rate.
  • Large step up from university and a lot of programs to learn.
  • Minimal pay transparency among employees.
  • The commute. Unless you live close to South Auckland, the commute to East Tamaki can be quite long.

Not a lot of companies are truly global – being under the Haier umbrella but headquartered in New Zealand is unique and opens up opportunities not just here but abroad. Ours is a culture where people thrive.
