Recruitment Process

Depending on the role you've applied for we have a few different steps to our recruitment process. This may include a phone interview, an online assessment to learn more about your preferred way of working, a skills-based assessment or we may even have you complete your very own video interview to help bring your application to life.

All our current vacancies are advertised on our careers page and all applications need to be submitted online. Once you have identified a job that you're interested in, simply click 'Apply'. As part of the application process, we will ask you some questions upfront to learn more about you in relation to the job you have applied for. Don't forget to have your CV/resume on hand as we'll need to see that too!

You will receive an email straight away from us acknowledging your application. After this, someone from our recruitment team will be in touch by either phone or email. We try to get back to you as soon as we can but for some roles, we receive a large number of applications – if this is the case please bear with us we are working hard to review all the applications as fast as possible!

Phone interviews, video interviews, some testing relevant to role are all utilised by Fonterra's recruitment team

Assessment Centre / Interview:

For some roles, we will arrange a face-to-face interview or you may be invited to attend an assessment centre. Don't worry though – we're here to help prepare you with the right information so you can give it your absolute best shot.

The interview isn't just about us seeing if you're right for the role; it's also the perfect chance for you to see whether we're right for you. You'll have the opportunity to ask us questions too!

If you are successful following the interview stage, we will request that you undertake pre-employment checks, which may include all or some of the following:

  • Reference check
  • Criminal background check
  • Entitlement to work check
  • Credit check
  • Pre-employment medical check for some roles/locations
  • Other roles also require more specific checks that you will be made aware of if applicable.

Once you have completed all the aspects of our recruitment process and been identified as a successful candidate you will be sent a contract that will formalise the job offer. This will also include other information you'll need to make an informed decision.

At Fonterra, we do not make offers verbally, although we may discuss aspects including location, salary/wage, and possible start dates with you over the telephone or by email prior to you receiving your contract.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • Culture - generally very welcoming. Ability to progress - being a large company means there are plenty of opportunities to go into different areas of the business
  • I think the culture of the company is really good; everyone I met has always been willing to help and share knowledge and expertise, of which there is a lot of. As it is a global company, there are also many opportunities for growth, learn new skills, and to try different things.
  • The culture for sure!!
  • Working for a very large company means that although there's a lot of opportunity, sometimes to get things over the line, there's a lot of people and hoops everything has to go through. It may also be hard to see direct impact as everything is viewed on a large scale, but it’s important to know that every project counts.
  • As it is a large company, you get quite deep into your responsibilities in your role. Unlike smaller companies, it can be harder to gain a wide perspective of other areas of the business unless you change roles
  • It is big so takes/will take a long time to understand/gain a holistic picture
