The Warehouse Group Graduate Programs & Internships

  • Retail & Consumer Goods

The Warehouse Group (TWG) is a New Zealand success story, founded by Sir Stephen Tindall and evolved from a single The Warehouse store to become one of the largest retailing groups in New Zealand with $3 billion in sales.

TWG consists of six core retail brands: The Warehouse, Warehouse Stationery, Noel Leeming, Torpedo7, 1-day and the market. We have 260+ retail stores, online stores as well as distribution centres throughout New Zealand. We also have two overseas sourcing offices located in China and India. We are a people-centred business with more than 12,000 team employees across our locations.

TWG is known for being Here for Good - it's who we are and what keeps us focused to succeed. It represents our commitment to better living for all New Zealanders, through sustainable retail products and practices and the mission of contributing to the long-lasting health of our planet.

Over the years, we've raised over 50 million dollars for New Zealand communities and have contributed to countless community-focused initiatives. We were the first company in New Zealand to add a Shielded Site link to the Women's Refuge website to help protect those experiencing family violence and were a key supporter of the Government's Family Violence Victims' Protection Bill. We were New Zealand's first large company and the third major retailer in the world to go carbon neutral.

While we may be approaching 40 years old as a business, in many ways we feel we're just getting started

Recruitment Process

Application

Applications can be made through the careers site - www.twgcareers.co.nz. Please include an updated version of your CV, cover letter/note to the hiring manager and answer our pre-screening questions honestly. Your application will be reviewed by our Talent Acquisition team or the hiring manager directly. If they feel you are well suited for the position you will move through to a phone interview as the first stage. if you don't proceed further at this point, that is ok, we will have your details on file should something else arise. On this note, we suggest making a note to get job alert emails sent through to you to stay abreast of opportunities as they come up.

Phone Interview

For our Support Office positions - you will speak with one of our Talent Acquisition Partners for around 15 - 30 mins answering questions about your experience and some of the details required for the position. The TA Partners will then present a shortlist of candidates to the Hiring Manager, who will then select who they would like to interview.

For our Store positions - you will speak with the store management hiring team for around 10-15min answering questions about your experience, availability on shifts and some of the details required for the position. From here, if all align, you will be invited in for a face to face interview.

In-person Interview

For our Support Office positions - You will meet with the Hiring Manager and any other important stakeholders where you will be asked a series of technical and behavioural questions to assess your suitability for the position. If successful, you will be asked back for a second interview and at times there may be a third interview required which may be more of a meet and greet with the team.

For our Store positions - you will meet with the hiring manager(s) for an interview individually or even through an assessment centre process.

Psychometric testing and references:

For our Support Office positions - you may be asked to complete Psychometric testing (verbal, numeric and abstract reasoning) and we will conduct 2 reference checks with previous managers.

Compliance

We complete criminal history checks on all hires at the offer/contract stage for all roles in the business.

Please also note that in order to meet our health and safety obligations, TWG is committed to taking all practicable steps to eliminate or minimise the risk of transmission and infection of COVID-19. We therefore now have a vaccination policy that mandates all team members to be fully vaccinated.

Remuneration & Career Growth

All of the remunerations are based on up-to-date market knowledge and are calculated on your contribution level. Graduate or entry-level roles normally start from $45,000 per annum.

We work hard to promote our talent internally and promotion timelines can vary, depending on the needs of the business as well as your performance.

The coolest thing about my job is the autonomy I have. Even as an intern I have control over my daily schedule. I can choose if I’m working at the office or from home. I can choose what tasks I prioritise and control the flow of my work.
