About the opportunity


We have an exciting opportunity for law graduates to join our 2025 law clerk programme in our Litigation team based in Wellington. 

Our market-leading Litigation practice is at the forefront of the New Zealand legal market for dispute resolution. Our lawyers advise New Zealand's biggest corporates across a wide range of sectors, on complex disputes including large cross-border and NZX listed matters, significant class actions, major construction project disputes, and insolvency and restructuring litigation. 

As a law clerk at Russell McVeagh you will:

  • Work with some of the leading lawyers in Aotearoa New Zealand, on some of the most significant cases and transactions;
  • Be supported as you transition from university to your professional life, including with your professional studies and admission to the Bar; 
  • Participate in a comprehensive induction programme, 12 months law clerk development programme and ongoing training;
  • Have a wide network of peers and seniors to lean on; and
  • Have a meaningful and enjoyable start of your career.

About you

We are looking for students who are in the last year of their law degree (planning to finish university studies by the end of 2024 and be available to start in early 2025) and have:

  • A strong interest in commercial law;
  • A strong interest in Litigation as a practise area;
  • A strong academic record;
  • Drive, ambition, and a positive attitude;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and
  • Share our values of Respect, Curiosity, Excellence and Tenacity.
