Culture at Beca New Zealand

8.4
8.4 rating for Culture, based on 27 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
In the Auckland building services section at least, we have quite a laid back culture where we're all very social with each other. Everyone's happy to approach one another in the office with questions, to grab a coffee, or just to chat. This applies to everyone including the team leaders, technical directors, and regular teammates. My team in particular loves making and sharing memes with each other, although not too frequently or else we'll get too distracted. This isn't just among the young members of the team, but also the seniors which shows age doesn't matter when it comes to who you can have fun with. Outside of work hours, we have a variety of social events not only with our team/section, but also with the wider Beca company such as Beca Ball, the end of year cocktail party, the monthly graduate lunch & learns sessions, and more!

The culture is strong, the teams allows everyone individual interests and will celebrate those. Sometimes there is awkwardness but I'm sure that happens in all workplaces, especially when people get annoyed with each other about menial things. There is clear hierarchy but only for the benefit of supporting graduates. The team works as one!

It can differ depending on the time of the year/ how busy people are. The majority of the time, the office is a nice place to work and people seem happy. Fortnightly office wide meetings are a great opportunity to learn about what other sections are doing and how we can all work together. The monthly themed friday drinks is a great way to connect with people in the office on a more personal level (the turn out can be a bit poor sometimes though).

We have a big and diverse team, we hold many activities to gather people together and promote different cultures. We also have a lot of events for just the graduates in the office to connect with each other which is the part I love the most.

Socialising has been impacted since C19 as less people are in the office. There is office social activities organized by grads and people acorss the team. Heirachy feels flat and most seniors are keen to develop the careers of young people. I get along very well with my peers

Great work culture except I feel that flexi-working is sometimes frowned upon by some of the seniors. Lots of after work drinks/social events.

Very good culture both during and after work, a very strong social club and everyone in the office is super friendly

Heavy drinking and party culture after office hours. I was told that you will struggle if you do not buy into that culture, which makes it difficult since I do neither. Very progressive culture where they are inclusive of gender ideology and indigenous agendas. I am indigenous, but it comes off as a little tokenism, especially how I am used. If you buy into the culture you will have a great time, but independent thinking is often discouraged and causes you to be out casted. In office most people keep to themselves and work hard. Very friendly though, not a talkative bunch.

The company provides an opportunity to build good culture throughout the graduate cohort by providing the chance for the group to gather together. There is more opportunity to develop team culture within our team and get to know the individuals within the team. I think that there is a natural hierarchical nature within companies but I feel at times that the opinion of graduates is not valued to the extent that it should be.
Midlevel
The culture within the office is positive amongst most of the team most of the time, this makes it enjoyable to come to the office each day. As a team we do not socialise outside of work but do enjoy a good team outing. The grad cohort for my section is strong and we really look out for each other.

Senior team members actively engage with everyone, cooperative and learning environment, frequent social events team-wide and particularly among graduates we have frequent events on top of that e.g. social weekends away, dinners, we become real friends with our graduate colleagues.

In the office: everyone is generally friendly. Professional growth is well encouraged here as well as personal wellbeing. On a team by team basis there is generally a good level of banter amongst workmates. In my team, diversity really stands out Outside the office: many people do social sports and activities together. Many people tend to have some form of involvement with each other

The company is multiverse and they are very accepting in everyone's culture. Everyone is approachable despite their position in the hierarchy.

People are quite positive, in the office everyone seems very approachable and willing to talk and help me learn. Out of the office the younger engineers have set up a cool social club that organizes events that are good fun.

Many lunchtime/after work social sports to connect with people from all disciplines. Socializing events are organized every so often. Office is open plan and I do not feel a big step between manager/boss and workers.

During work hours, our section culture is great. Super friendly vibe and people are always up for a yarn. Outside of work, mates stick to mates within the section but, there is good connectivity outside of the office and event participation is good.
